Civil Society Groups Partner to Promote Youth Education and Job Creation
Abuja, Nigeria – December 8, 2025 – In a move aimed at tackling youth unemployment and improving access to education, the Salute Nigeria Initiative and the Pat Fernandes Foundation have announced a strategic partnership to support youth empowerment across Nigeria.
The joint initiative is designed to provide young Nigerians, particularly those from underserved communities, with access to technical and vocational training, mentorship programmes, and entrepreneurial skills development. The partnership seeks to equip participants with practical tools to secure sustainable employment and create self‑reliant business opportunities.
Speaking at the launch event in Abuja, the Executive Director of Salute Nigeria Initiative, Mrs. Oluchi Okafor, emphasised the need for targeted programmes that directly address the employment challenges facing young Nigerians. She stated, “Our youth represent the future of this nation. By providing them with skills, mentorship, and guidance, we are investing in a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.”
The Founder of Pat Fernandes Foundation, Mr. Patrick Fernandes, highlighted that the collaboration will leverage the strengths of both organisations to reach a wider audience. “Together, we can create an ecosystem where education and practical skills translate into economic opportunities. This partnership is about empowering youth to be self‑sufficient and productive members of society,” he said.
The programme will include career counselling, hands‑on workshops, digital skills training, and exposure to entrepreneurial ventures. Participants will also have opportunities to engage with successful professionals across various industries, gaining insights that enhance employability and business readiness.
According to recent national statistics, over 40 percent of Nigerians aged 18 to 35 are unemployed or underemployed, underscoring the urgency of initiatives such as this. By providing structured learning and mentorship, the partnership aims to reduce these numbers and enable young people to actively contribute to the economy.
The organisers have called on government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and other civil society organisations to support and collaborate with the initiative to expand its reach and impact.
This partnership represents a critical step toward addressing Nigeria’s youth unemployment crisis while promoting skills development and economic empowerment, reinforcing the role of civil society in driving social change.
