Tokunbo Wahab outlines enforcement priorities as Lagos intensifies environmental regulation
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Philip Wahab continues to define an assertive operational framework for environmental governance across Lagos. Since his appointment, the ministry has prioritised enforcement against illegal structures on drainage channels, enhanced monitoring of waste collection operators and accelerated interventions in flood prone communities.
Speaking during a recent strategic briefing, Wahab reaffirmed that environmental management remains central to the administration’s resilience agenda. Key directives include stricter compliance checks, reinforcement of sanitation standards and engagement with councils and community development associations.
Environmental groups acknowledge the heightened visibility of enforcement operations but encourage deeper community sensitisation to support long term sustainability.
