Lagos State Expands Drainage and Flood Control Infrastructure
The Lagos State Government has expanded its drainage construction and rehabilitation programme as part of a comprehensive flood mitigation strategy. The initiative includes desilting of major collectors, construction of new drainage channels, and integration of storm water management into road projects.
Officials from the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources stated that the programme is guided by flood risk mapping and climate adaptation planning. Priority areas include densely populated districts and commercial corridors vulnerable to seasonal flooding.
Urban development experts note that effective drainage infrastructure is critical to protecting public assets, sustaining mobility, and reducing economic losses during the rainy season. They emphasize the importance of continuous maintenance and community cooperation in waste management.
