Ministry of Environment and Water Resources launches new initiatives for water quality and green resilience

The Lagos Ministry of Environment and Water Resources marked recent environmental observances with the launch of new measures aimed at improving water quality, preserving wetlands and combating indiscriminate waste disposal.

The ministry announced a heightened water testing regime for major urban water bodies, pilot recycling clusters in selected communities and renewed action against unauthorised dumping along lagoon corridors.

Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab emphasized the need for integrated responses that combine engineering works, community education and private participation.

According to ministry officials, the new initiatives will support the state resilience plan by reducing flood risks, enhancing public health and reinforcing green infrastructure.

Consultants note that Lagos requires consistent policy execution to manage its fast-growing population and complex environmental pressures.
